Frequently Asked Questions

  • While our roots are in this type of work, we’re not taking on new ongoing engagements in those areas. Rather than running your books or stepping in as your finance team, we work alongside you and your team to solve meaningful problems and leave you with a function that works without us.

  • It depends. If you need short-term support to bridge a gap and it creates an opportunity for us to help you improve the underlying finance function, we’re open to stepping in to bridge day-to-day work on a short-term basis. If you’re simply looking for temporary coverage, we’re likely not the right fit, but we’re happy to connect you with people who specialize in interim placements.

  • We work best with businesses that have a finance leader in place. While our work can be valuable in other settings, we consistently see the strongest results when we partner directly with a finance leader. It also signals the business is at the right stage and level of complexity for our work.

On the accounting side, someone needs to own the day-to-day. We don’t run the ledger or act as your accounting team. Our role is to improve how the function operates, which requires a long-term resource in place, whether internal or outsourced. In some cases, we can help bridge short-term gaps, but we don’t engage without a clear long-term owner.

  • We work in 90-day sprints, so the initial commitment is one sprint. From there, we take it one step at a time based on results and fit. That said, we do our best work with teams who are looking to build and improve their finance function over a series of sprints. We structure engagements this way to stay flexible and earn your trust, but we’re typically partnering with businesses that see this as more than a one-off project.

  • What matters most to us is the leader, our working relationship with them, and their openness to changing how the finance function operates. When that’s strong, it's easy to work across a range of industries and companies. We have deep experience in technology and services businesses. We’re less active in a few areas, including heavy manufacturing, e-commerce, construction, crypto, and cannabis.

  • We move quickly to get started on the conversation, and in some cases can begin work within a few weeks. More commonly, project start dates are scheduled in advance, with most engagements beginning 60 to 90 days after our initial interaction. We take a thoughtful approach to staffing and limit the number of engagements we take on so the work is set up to succeed and holds up over time. If you’re considering working together, it’s helpful to reach out early so we can align on timing.

  • Pricing is tailored to your specific situation and the problems we’re solving. Where possible, we structure work as fixed-fee projects. Reach out to schedule an intro call and, if it’s a fit, we’ll provide a directional range and begin scoping and pricing an initial 90-day sprint focused on your most pressing issue.
